    Historic Preservation Commission Meetings

Historic preservation plays a vital role in maintaining Jackson’s unique character. It ensures that new construction and rehabilitation projects are compatible with existing neighborhood styles and quality standards. The Historic Preservation Ordinance was first adopted in 1988 and has been amended over time to guide:

    Rehabilitation of historic structures

    New development within historic districts

Alterations to cultural, architectural, and archaeological properties

Protection of local and state landmarks, as well as sites listed on the National Register of Historic Properties

Local historic districts were created with the agreement of property owners, recognizing the long-term benefits to their communities.

    The Attala County Garden Club

    Steel Magnolias meets Get Out

“He (Payne) knows how to create sharp, wild comedy that resonates with depth and timeliness, and he’s done it again here.”– ARTS ATL

In 1987 Mississippi, Rose Chipley’s social ambitions are crushed when she’s rejected by the elite City Garden Club. But just as all hope seems lost, a quirky invitation from the eccentric Bettye Little-Landrum offers a tantalizing alternative—the Attala County Garden Club. What begins as a charming escape soon takes a decidedly darker turn as Rose stumbles upon the club’s mysterious, moonlit gardening rituals. Beneath the petals and pruned hedges, a web of secrets begins to bloom, and Rose soon realizes that the garden club’s members might not just be cultivating flowers… but something far more dangerous. The Attala County Garden Club is a bewitching comedy where the stakes are higher than you’d expect, and the soil is thick with secrets. Recommended for ages 16+.

Step inside MCM’s SUPER-lympic Village for a competition consisting of hands-on, educational games promoting both physical and mental health! The day will kick off with our Opening Ceremony, followed by MCM’s SUPER-lympic Games, where children will focus on three priorities: physical activity, healthy eating, and social/emotional health.

For young children, these physical activities will improve fine and gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and agility, while older children will have the opportunity to increase their flexibility, aerobic fitness, and muscle strength. To encourage healthy eating, children and caregivers can engage in hands-on activities in the garden surrounding healthy foods, how they grow in the garden, and how they taste. Programming components such as emotional regulation and character building will also be woven into activities throughout the event. The games will wrap up with a Closing Ceremony, where all participants will receive a medal.

THROUGH THIS EVENT, MCM STRIVES TO:

Inspire children and families to implement easy, healthy lifestyle habits through fun, educational activities focusing on the benefits and importance of physical and mental health.

Enhance accessibility and engagement between families and local healthcare providers.

Empower children and families with the knowledge and resources necessary to live a healthy lifestyle.

    Classic American Musical

    Subscription Show

One nation. Many dreams. A musical that moves the soul.

“A dazzling, heart-stirring masterpiece. Ragtime delivers a powerful, timeless message that resonates long after the curtain falls.”— The New York Times

It’s the dawn of the 20th century, and New York City is alive with change, innovation, and the vibrant rhythms of ragtime. This Tony Award-winning musical brings to life the intertwining stories of three families—a white, upper-middle-class family in New Rochelle, an African-American musician and his girlfriend in Harlem, and a Jewish immigrant and his daughter on the Lower East Side. Their journeys are shaped by the towering figures of the era, including the daring Harry Houdini, the visionary Booker T. Washington, the powerful J.P. Morgan, and the industrial titan Henry Ford. As their lives cross paths, Ragtime delves into issues of race, class, identity, and the American Dream, delivering a stirring, intimate production that speaks as profoundly to today’s world as it did a century ago. Recommended for ages 12+.
